The cover

In this project for Type and Design class, my fellow classmates and I were tasked with redesigning any artists album cover with a design movement of our choice. We all were asked to research different design movements that have existed in the past and present. The design movement that stood out to me the most and the one I decided to go with was the Swiss style movement. I watched many videos on how this movement came into existence and how designers truly created Swiss style pieces of art.

Process

The Swiss style movement is a graphic design movement, formed in the 1950s–1960s under the influence of such phenomena as the International Typographic Style, Russian Constructivism, the tradition of the Bauhaus school, the International Style and classical modernism. The typographic style is a very clever design that transforms most of its works into an informational looking piece that you can find in an IKEA store.

Meaning

The album cover was an attempt at creating Swiss style album artwork design. The thick dark lines were are meant to act as dividers between the artist's name and the name of the album. On the backside of the album there is one last Swiss style illustration that created to guide the viewers eyes to the beginning of the monologue.
